Ride the Current, Hide in the Thickets: Rivers and Thickets

Rivers and thickets now shape the battlefield. Here's how to ride the current and hide in thickets, plus the new Beam Cell and Ink Cell and the Endless event Wetland Overflow.

Cell swarms moving between a river crossing the battlefield and the thickets along its banks

Rivers: read the current

Rivers now run across the battlefield. Ride the current to go much faster, swim against it and you slow to a crawl, and stand still to drift along. Use them to shake off pursuers or to hurry somewhere far away.

Thickets: hide and strike

Step into a thicket by the river and you're hidden from outside. Attacking from inside briefly reveals your swarm, so use thickets to set up an ambush and land the first strike. These days, Special Cell Gardens and Nutrient Gardens sometimes appear hidden in thickets too.

Waterways by mode

  • Endless: rivers sometimes dry up and flow again elsewhere
  • Battle Royale: rivers and thickets dry up as the safe zone shrinks
  • Hive Break: cross the central stream on the bridge in each lane
  • Arena: depending on the duel zone, there are now thickets or waterways

Two new special cells

  • Beam Cell: takes aim, then fires a long beam that pierces every enemy in a straight line
  • Ink Cell: throws ink bombs at ranged cells. Inked cells only notice enemies right in front of them

Wetland Overflow

Endless got a new event too. When the wetland overflows, temporary rivers flow across the battlefield for a while and thickets grow lush. Nutrients keep sprouting under the thickets, and large nutrients float down the rivers.
